Hilang dan Tak Kembali

Press Release | September 6, 2024

"Will Kamila Batavia Disappear and Not Return?": Kamila bares her fangs in her third song, which explores the complexity of the passion of life and despair.

Will Kamila Batavia disappear and never return?

Of course not, Kamila Batavia is back on the Indonesian music scene, having just released "Hilang dan Tak Kembali" as her third and final single to promote the release of her self-written EP (Extended Play) in early 2025. The trilingual singer and songwriter from Jakarta, who now lives in Hamburg, Germany, is noted not only for her vintage aesthetic look, but also for her distinctive songs and lyrics.

Hilang dan Tak Kembali, which combines chamber, retro, and gothic pop elements, appears to mesmerize listeners with contemplative lyrics on life's intricate dynamics. "This song has an ambiguous meaning because it can not only be interpreted as a heartbreak song between two people who do not have the same frequency, but also a story about my personal experience of having a high passion for life and ideals but at the same time a desire to disappear because of a burden of thoughts that cannot be handled anymore," according to her.

The song begins with a captivating chorus and piano, followed by lyrics in the first verse that use the state of rigor mortis as a metaphor for inability to survive. The lyrics in the pre-chorus assert the existence of a fiery spirit, accompanied by an aggressive drum beat that can lead the listener to a high level of excitement, and are seemingly disregarded in the first chorus, which sounds calm and quiet, demonstrating the song's dynamics.

"Hilang dan Tak Kembali," produced by Faizal Saputra, has a dramatic mood with a combination of heavy reverb and powerful synths, basslines, and drums, accentuating the focus on each beat and the echo of Kamila Batavia's delicate vocals.

"During the songwriting process, I was motivated by my observations on life's tragedies and the complexity of my relationships with those around me. As a musician who also enjoys literature, I aspire to create profound and meaningful works," Kamila said.
