Dramatic, melancholic, yet inspiring the listeners to “move on and drown the hope” that still exists in a dead-end romantic relationship, Kamila Batavia, an indie singer-songwriter based in Hamburg, Germany, transformed her emotional outbursts into poetic lyrics and beautiful melodies into her debut single “Berakhir dan Berlalu” on May 24, 2024.

Not only that, Kamila Batavia has an eccentric persona and invites listeners to return to the Baroque and Contemporary era through her visuals based on the motto "when paintings come to life".

The song “Berakhir dan Berlalu”, written by Kamila Batavia herself, tells about the fortitude of a person who is betrayed by their partner and how they comprehend and process the situation. Kamila Batavia interprets the 5 Stages of Grief into this 4-minute 13-second song, where a journey of grief is formed from the beginning of the verse to the outro. According to the 25-year-old singer, openness in art is one of the important elements to touch the hearts of listeners.

Impressionistically, Kamila Batavia wanted to highlight the maritime nuances in this song because the port city where she lives, Hamburg, Germany, was the inspiration for the song. That is the reason why this song not only features orchestral music and vocal harmonies as the characteristic of chamber/baroque pop but also a unique and rare chord progression in pop music - almost similar to Debussy's chord progression.

The independently released single was produced and arranged by Faizal Saputra, a producer and audio engineer whom Kamila Batavia met when she was the opening act for a concert by a top Indonesian band at Indra Musikclub, Hamburg last October 2023.

Kamila Batavia, who is not only a musician but also a full-time employee at an international marketing agency in Germany, hopes that her listeners can recover from old wounds that have not closed by trying to gradually accept the reality. “Time can mend broken heart. I hope this song can mend the broken heart and be the listener's grieving journey,” she said.
