Long live the Princess of Batavia.
The new era begins; the era of finding beauty in strength, elegance in resilience, and grace in vulnerability.
Bio
Kamila Batavia, also widely known as The Princess of Batavia, is a multilingual singer-songwriter and storyteller whose music blends gothic folk, baroque-pop, and a sense of timeless romanticism. Through soft-spoken vocals, antique piano textures, and cinematic string arrangements, Kamila creates an intimate world where longing, memory, and quiet strength drift like echoes in a forgotten castle.
Born in Jakarta, Indonesia on December 18, 1998, and fluent in Indonesian, English, and German, Kamila draws from a wide range of cultural and musical influences. Her sound is deeply rooted in classical Lieder, European poetry, and chamber music traditions, evoking the atmosphere of a bygone era while remaining emotionally raw and contemporary.
Her debut EP The Scent of Camellias (2025) introduced her signature style, melancholy yet graceful, literary yet deeply personal. With standout tracks like Hilang dan Tak Kembali, Als Ich Einschlief, and Head Over Heels, she explores themes of impermanence, heartbreak, and poetic memory through a multilingual lens. The EP gained quiet traction across Southeast Asia and Europe, earning her a loyal audience drawn to her understated elegance and haunting songwriting.
Kamila’s unique ability to cross both genre and language boundaries has already led to key career milestones. In 2025, she took the stage at the German Songwriting Awards in Berlin as one of the few artists to perform in German as a non-native speaker, proving her boldness and linguistic edge. She followed it up with a self-driven tour across Hamburg, Jakarta, and Tangerang Selatan in Spring 2025, and is now set to bring her music to new stages in Köln and Amsterdam.
At the heart of Kamila’s creative identity is her alter ego, The Princess of Batavia; a mythical figure inspired by forgotten love letters, medieval elegance, and the quiet resilience of women throughout history. Her music isn’t just about melody; it’s about atmosphere, symbolism, and the stories we carry in silence.
With each release, Kamila Batavia continues to invite listeners into her world; a space of delicate emotions, poetic language, and cinematic soundscapes. She writes not just to be heard, but to be felt.
Beyond music, Kamila is also an accomplished painter, author, and poet. Her visual artworks, especially her signature cloud paintings have been exhibited in Germany and are celebrated for their dreamlike atmosphere and emotive storytelling. She often paints her own portraits, many of which are used in her official merchandise and concert promotions, reinforcing her identity as a fully self-directed artist. As a poet, she published the widely shared piece Rose Palette (2019), and her writing often blends romantic symbolism with existential reflection; a thematic thread that runs through both her visual and musical work. Kamila’s multidisciplinary background deepens her identity as a storyteller, making each song not only something to hear but also to see and read—a total experience of feeling and imagery.
