Bio

Kamila Batavia is an independent Indonesian singer-songwriter, composer, and multidisciplinary artist based in Germany. Known as The Princess of Batavia, she is the creator of Baroque Galactic—an artistic and musical language bringing together chamber pop, baroque and orchestral textures, cinematic melancholy, symbolic storytelling, and mythic futurism.

Across music, live performance, literature, and visual storytelling, Kamila creates worlds shaped by memory, longing, cultural displacement, grief, and reconstruction. Antique pianos, strings, multilingual songwriting, and recurring imagery of moons, castles, harbors, and celestial landscapes form part of a body of work in which the intimate and the mythic continually intersect.

Born in Jakarta on December 18, 1998 as Kamila Putri Dewi and fluent in Indonesian, German, and English, Kamila’s work moves between her Indonesian origins and her life in Germany. Batavia—the historical name of Jakarta—becomes within her artistic world an imagined territory: the Kingdom of Batavia, where personal memory, history, mythology, and speculative imagination coexist.

Her debut EP, The Scent of Camellias (2025), introduced this universe through intimate and multilingual songwriting. Songs including Hilang dan Tak Kembali, Als Ich Einschlief, and Berakhir dan Berlalu established an early vocabulary of loss, memory, longing, and poetic imagery.

In 2025, Kamila performed in German at the German Songwriting Awards in Berlin and completed a self-driven series of performances across Hamburg, Jakarta, Tangerang, and Köln.

In 2026, her artistic world expanded further with Baroque Galactic and Tayomi, a deeply personal work dedicated to her late mother. In August, Kamila presented Hurled to the Moon at Kampnagel International Summer Festival in Hamburg, performing with band and string players from Unimusik Hamburg. Combining multilingual songwriting, piano, chamber-pop arrangements, and theatrical storytelling, the performance brought the imagined Kingdom of Batavia into a live ensemble setting.

Central to Kamila’s work is The Princess of Batavia, a recurring artistic persona through which she explores memory, loss, resilience, belonging, and transformation. Rather than functioning solely as a character, the Princess forms part of a wider narrative architecture connecting Kamila’s music to the evolving mythology of the Kingdom of Batavia.

Her multidisciplinary practice also extends into literature and visual art. Her original paintings have been exhibited in Germany, while works including Rose Palette (2019) and Mercusuar dan Gelombang Samudera Biru (2024) reflect the literary roots of the symbolic language that continues throughout her music and worldbuilding.

Together, these elements form an evolving Gesamtkunstwerk in which music, performance, literature, visual art, and mythology belong to the same artistic world. Through each new work, Kamila Batavia continues to expand the Kingdom of Batavia—not as a fixed fantasy setting, but as a living archive of memory and an imaginative space for what can be rebuilt from it.

In August 2026, Kamila Batavia brought the world of Baroque Galactic to Kampnagel International Summer Festival in Hamburg with Hurled to the Moon, a multilingual music and storytelling performance. Joined by her band and string players from Unimusik Hamburg, Kamila transformed songs from her catalogue into a theatrical chamber-pop experience shaped by piano, strings, memory, and mythology.

Moving between Indonesian, German, and English, the performance brought the imagined Kingdom of Batavia into a live setting—where songs, storytelling, and orchestral textures became part of the same world.

What if carrying the longing of losing someone you love feels like living through a thousand years of civilization?

This is the world Kamila Batavia begins to build in Tayomi, a lament for her late mother, whom she never had the chance to say goodbye. The world she calls The Baroque Galactic.

The name Tayomi is derived from the Javanese phrase “Tak Ayomi,” meaning “I will protect you.” What was once a name now becomes a promise she carries, quietly, across time.

In this work, sound no longer belongs to a single era. From the ancient echoes of the medieval world, to the emotional grandeur of the baroque, to the vast and distant silence of space... All elements are brought together to hold what could not be held before.

For Kamila, some forms of longing were never meant for one place. They expand… until even the sky learns to carry them.

Baroque Galactic is a sonic universe envisioned by Kamila Batavia, a multilingual Indonesian singer-songwriter based in Germany. Filmed across Hamburg’s historical landmarks, this intimate interview series traces the emotional and artistic journey behind Kamila Batavia’s debut EP, The Scent of Camellias (2025).

Across five chapters, Kamila revisits each song not as mere compositions, but as living memories; windows into grief, rebirth, and self-discovery. Between gothic ruins, town halls, and quiet city corners, she speaks of transformation: how sorrow becomes art, and how beauty survives time.

Road to Baroque Galactic serves as a bridge between eras closing the chapter of The Scent of Camellias while opening the celestial gates to her next creation, Tayomi (2026), the leading single of her upcoming album Memento Mori (album release to be decided).
